Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring

A coronary artery calcium scan measures calcified plaque within the coronary arteries.

The calcium score may help identify evidence of coronary atherosclerosis and refine cardiovascular risk in appropriately selected individuals.

A higher calcium score generally reflects a greater burden of calcified coronary plaque.

However, calcium scoring primarily identifies calcified plaque and does not provide a complete assessment of non-calcified or soft plaque.
